The serval is a medium-sized African wild cat — one of Africa’s small cats, not a member of the classic large “big cats” such as lions and leopards. The serval’s enormous ears are highly specialized hunting tools. They contain numerous muscles and can rotate independently, helping pinpoint prey sounds — including rodents moving through grass or hidden by vegetation. The serval can stop, listen, locate movement, orient its ears and leap toward the sound without first seeing the prey.
Remove any precise “80 km/h” figure. The serval is an agile, fast predator, but its real advantages are long legs, rapid acceleration, agility, jumping and hearing — not a well-established maximum-speed number. Use: fast and highly agile, but a definitive maximum speed is not well established.
Servals strongly prefer wet, grassy, cover-rich habitats: marshes, wetlands, reed beds, tall grass, floodplains, riparian vegetation, well-watered savanna, grassland and wet woodland edges. Tanzania lies within this broad distribution and contains suitable wet grassland and savanna; so do Uganda and Kenya. Don’t present Tanzania as the primary range, and don’t make the species appear limited to Tanzania + Uganda.
Tanzania’s Serengeti and broader Ngorongoro ecosystem contain grasslands, seasonal wetlands and tall grass providing suitable habitat. Uganda’s wetlands and Kenya’s wet grasslands, savannas and marsh edges are also relevant — and any “Uganda wetlands — Region: Tanzania” metadata must be corrected to Region: Uganda. A serval sighting is never guaranteed.
Remove “High sighting likelihood.” Servals are secretive, relatively small, mostly nocturnal and habitat-dependent, so: “Sighting likelihood: uncommon to moderate, depending on habitat and conditions.” They may be particularly interesting on early-morning or late-afternoon game drives depending on destination regulations. Contrary to “single young,” servals normally produce 2–4 kittens (SANBI gives two to four; other sources around 2–3). Gestation lasts approximately 65–75 days (~9–11 weeks). Females hide kittens in dense vegetation, tall grass, reed beds or other sheltered locations and may move them between hiding places to reduce predator risk. The mother provides primary care; this is not a permanent family or cooperative adult group. Kittens are weaned at about 5 months, can remain with their mother for up to about a year, and reach sexual maturity around 18–24 months. Young males may be driven away once capable of hunting, while daughters can sometimes be tolerated longer.
