Predators of the Black Rhinoceros
For such a black rhinoceros, the savanna holds many dangers. It is important to distinguish between predators of adults and the greater threats facing young animals.
Healthy adults have virtually no natural predators; size, thick skin and horns deter even lions.
Calves and sub-adults can be taken by lions, spotted hyenas and Nile crocodiles, but mothers are ferociously protective.
