When to see Tanzania's wildlife
Game viewing is good year-round, but each season tells a different story.
| Season | Viewing | Conditions | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dry Season June – October |
Peak | Excellent, animals gather at waterholes and foliage thins. | Great Migration river crossings in the north; reliable Big Five sightings. |
| Short Rains November |
High | Good, with fresh green landscapes and fewer crowds. | Ideal for photography and a lush, revitalised bush. |
| Calving Season December – March |
High | Strong, with newborn herds and intense predator action. | Wildebeest calving in the southern Serengeti around February. |
| Long Rains April – May |
Low | Quieter, lush and green; some camps close. | Outstanding birdwatching and low-season value. |
Peak = excellent viewing with large wildlife concentrations; High = very good; Low = lush green landscapes, fewer crowds and superb birdwatching. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed and remain unpredictable.
