Day-by-Day Itinerary
Your trip, day by day
Day 1: Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut (1,860m – 2,700m)
Your journey begins at Marangu Gate, where you complete your paperwork and are greeted by the guides and porters. The hike leads through dense rainforest with moss-covered trees, exotic birds and small waterfalls. The walk takes about 4–5 hours before you reach Mandara Hut. In the afternoon you can rest and enjoy the surroundings.
Day 2: Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut (2,700m – 3,720m)
After breakfast the climb begins through the alpine heath zone, passing bizarre rock formations and open highlands. The hike takes 5–6 hours, and the landscape gradually changes from forest to barren high-mountain terrain. On arrival at Horombo Hut, enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains and prepare for the next stage.
Day 3: Acclimatization Day – Horombo Hut
An important day for acclimatization. You hike to a small viewpoint or explore the nearby lava trails to get used to the altitude. This day reduces the risk of altitude sickness and strengthens your chance of successfully reaching the summit. In the afternoon you return to Horombo Hut, rest and enjoy the panorama.
Day 4: Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut (3,720m – 4,700m)
The climb to Kibo Hut begins early in the morning. The hike takes 5–6 hours through barren, rocky lava fields to Kibo Hut. Here you go to bed early to gather strength for the night summit tour. The surroundings become increasingly snow-covered, and the view of the glacier is spectacular.
Day 5: Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Marangu Gate (4,700m – 5,895m – 1,860m)
The summit tour starts very early in the morning, usually around midnight. With headlamps you climb through rock and lava fields until, after about 6–8 hours, you reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters. The sunrise over the African continent is an unforgettable experience. After the summit you first descend to Kibo Hut, eat something, and then continue the descent to Horombo Hut. From there you continue down to Marangu Gate, where you receive your certificate and the tour officially ends.

Best Time to Travel
The clearest, driest climbing conditions fall in two windows: late June through October, and January to mid-March. Kilimanjaro can be climbed year-round, but the short and long rains (November, and April-May) bring wetter trails and lower summit visibility.
