Day-by-Day Itinerary
Your trip, day by day
Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Continue above the forest line into the heath and moorland zone, crossing the Shira Plateau to Shira Camp at 3,840 m. Spectacular views of the Western Breach and Kibo peak.
Shira Camp via Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
A classic acclimatisation day: climb steeply to Lava Tower (4,600 m), then descend to Barranco Camp (3,950 m). Hike high, sleep low.
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Tackle the famous Barranco Wall in the morning — a steep but non-technical scramble with thrilling views — then walk on to Karanga Camp (4,040 m).
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
A shorter day to save energy for the summit push, crossing the arid alpine desert to Barafu Camp (4,680 m). Early briefing for the night ascent.
Summit Day: Barafu to Uhuru Peak, descend to Mweka
Depart around midnight under headlamp, reaching Stella Point at 5,745 m at dawn and Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) shortly after sunrise. Descend to Mweka Camp (3,100 m) for the night.
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
A final morning descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,650 m), where you receive your summit certificate and transfer back to your hotel in Moshi.
