D1

Day 1: Machame Gate – Machame Camp (1,800m – 3,000m)

Machame Camp (3.000 m)

The tour begins at Machame Gate, where you receive your permits and are greeted by the porters and guides. The climb leads through dense rainforest with moss-covered trees, streams and exotic birdlife. After about 5–6 hours you reach Machame Camp, where you recover from the first leg.

D2

Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Camp (3,000m – 3,840m)

Shira Camp (3.840 m)

After breakfast you hike through the moorland and heath zone to the Shira Plateau. The route takes 6–7 hours, climbing moderately and offering wide views across the highland. On arrival at Shira Camp, enjoy the sunset over the plateau and prepare for the next day.

D3

Day 3: Shira Camp – Barranco Camp (3,840m – 3,950m)

Barranco Camp (3.950 m)

Today you cross the Shira Plateau toward Barranco Camp. Along the way you pass lava fields, small river valleys, and the famous Barranco Wall — a steep but very manageable scramble with spectacular views. In the afternoon you reach Barranco Camp and rest for the demanding day ahead.

D4

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (3,950m – 4,600m)

Barafu Camp (4.600 m)

The climb first leads to the Karanga Valley, then continues to Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit climb. The hike takes 6–7 hours and is partly steep. At Barafu Camp you rest, refuel and prepare for the night summit tour.

Day 5: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp (4,600m – 5,895m – 3,100m)

Mweka Camp (3.100 m)

The summit tour begins very early in the morning, usually around midnight. Armed with headlamps, you climb through rock and lava fields to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). The sunrise above the clouds is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. After the summit you first descend to Barafu Camp and eat something. Then you continue the descent to Mweka Camp, through lush vegetation and mountain forest, where you spend the night.

D6

Day 6: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Arusha (3,100m – 1,800m)

Moshi / Arusha

On the last day you hike 3–4 hours back to Mweka Gate, where you receive your summit certificate. Afterwards, transfer to Arusha or your hotel, where your 6-day Machame Kilimanjaro tour ends – filled with unforgettable experiences, breathtaking views and the triumph of conquering Africa's highest mountain.
