Day-by-Day Itinerary

Your trip, day by day

D1

Day 1: Londorossi Gate – Shira 1 Camp (approx. 3,050m)

Shira 1 Camp

In the morning you meet your guide at Londorossi Gate. After registration the climb begins through lush forest. Along the way you can spot monkeys and various bird species. In the afternoon you reach Shira 1 Camp, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the coming days.

Day 2: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp (approx. 3,850m)

Shira 2 Camp

The climb leads through moorland and heath vegetation. Along the way you enjoy wide views of the Shira Plateau. On arrival at Shira 2 Camp, rest and prepare for the route ahead.

Day 3: Shira 2 Camp – Barranco Camp (approx. 3,960m)

Barranco Camp

Today you hike through lava fields and alpine desert landscape. You pass the Shira Ridge and reach Barranco Camp. Along the way you have the chance to take photos and enjoy the dramatic scenery.

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (approx. 4,035m)

Karanga Camp

Today the Barranco Wall climb is on the agenda – a moderate but rewarding scramble. Afterwards you continue to Karanga Camp, a smaller, quiet camp.

Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (approx. 4,640m)

Barafu Camp

The climb to Barafu Camp, the base camp for summit day, leads through barren, alpine landscapes. After arrival: rest, dinner and preparation for the night summit climb.

D6

Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (approx. 3,100m)

Mweka Camp

Early morning start for the summit. The climb takes about 6–8 hours. From Uhuru Peak you enjoy spectacular sunrise views over Africa. After plenty of photos, the descent to Mweka Camp begins, where you recover.

D7

Day 7: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Return to Moshi/Arusha

Moshi / Arusha

After breakfast the final descent through forest back to Mweka Gate takes place. After official registration and certificate presentation, you are taken back to your accommodation in Moshi or Arusha.

Best Time to Travel

The clearest, driest climbing conditions fall in two windows: late June through October, and January to mid-March. Kilimanjaro can be climbed year-round, but the short and long rains (November, and April-May) bring wetter trails and lower summit visibility.
