Lake Mburo National Park is Uganda's smallest savannah park at about 370 km², and the closest to Kampala, roughly four hours by road. It sits on the route to Bwindi, which makes it a popular overnight stop on a gorilla trekking safari.
The park is the best place in Uganda to see zebra and impala and also holds eland, topi, buffalo, giraffe, warthog and hippo. With no elephants and few large predators, it is one of the few parks where you can explore on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike with a ranger, as well as on conventional game drives. A boat trip on the lake offers hippos, crocodiles and waterbirds, including the African finfoot.
Night drives give a chance of leopard, bushbabies and other nocturnal animals. Lake Mburo can be visited all year, with the dry seasons of June to August and December to February concentrating wildlife around the lakes.
