Your trip, day by day
Day 1: Rongai Gate – Simba Camp (1,950m – 2,800m)
The tour begins at Rongai Gate. After registration you set off through gentle hill country and light forest. The hike takes about 4–5 hours, during which you enjoy the first views of Kilimanjaro. On arrival at Simba Camp, you can rest and watch the sunset over the mountain's slopes.
Day 2: Simba Camp – Second Cave Camp (2,800m – 3,600m)
After breakfast you continue hiking to Second Cave. The route passes through open highlands, alpine heath and rocky sections. The hike takes 5–6 hours. In the afternoon you reach the camp, where you can rest and explore the surroundings.
Day 3: Second Cave – Kikelewa Camp (3,600m – 4,200m)
Today you continue climbing to the rocky highlands up to Kikelewa Camp. The landscape is varied: alpine moorland, lava fields and small streams characterize the route. The hike takes 5–6 hours and offers breathtaking views of the summit region. In the evening you prepare for summit day.
Day 4: Kikelewa – Mawenzi Tarn Camp – Barafu Camp (4,200m – 4,600m)
The climb first leads to Mawenzi Tarn Camp and then on to Barafu Camp, the starting point for the night summit. The hike takes 6–7 hours, partly steep, through lava fields and alpine vegetation. At Barafu Camp you refuel and rest to be fit for summit night.
Day 5: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp (4,600m – 5,895m – 3,100m)
The summit tour begins very early, usually around midnight. You hike through rocky lava fields and steep sections to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters. The sunrise above the clouds is unforgettable. After the summit you first descend to Barafu Camp, eat something, and then continue to Mweka Camp for the overnight stay amid lush vegetation.
Day 6: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Arusha (3,100m – 1,860m)
On the last day you descend in 3–4 hours to Mweka Gate. Here you receive your summit certificate and celebrate the completion of your Kilimanjaro tour. Afterwards, transfer to Arusha or your hotel.
