Itinerary

Arusha / Moshi

Starting point: Momella Gate (1,500m) Early in the morning you meet your guide at Momella Gate. After a short briefing the hike begins through lush rainforest. During the climb you may spot monkeys, birds and other wildlife. Ascent: Miriakamba Hut area (approx. 2,500m) After about 3–4 hours you reach the area around Miriakamba Hut, where you take a break, enjoy snacks and admire the view. From here you can see the summit region and have spectacular views of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape. Wildlife & nature viewing Along the way you may be lucky enough to encounter buffalo, elephants and antelope, as Mt. Meru lies within a wildlife reserve. Guides explain the flora, fauna and geological features of the volcano. Descent: Return to Momella Gate After the break the descent through the rainforest begins, back to the starting point. The hike takes about 6–7 hours in total, depending on fitness level and breaks. Return to Arusha / Moshi After returning to the gate, transfer back to your accommodation in Arusha or Moshi.
