Day-by-Day Itinerary
Your trip, day by day
Day 1: Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,100m – 2,800m)
The tour begins at Londorossi Gate. You hike through dense rainforest, past streams and exotic flora, to Mti Mkubwa Camp. The hike takes about 4–5 hours.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa – Shira 1 Camp (2,800m – 3,500m)
The hike leads along the edge of the Shira Plateau, past moorland and the first alpine heath zones. Duration approx. 5–6 hours.
Day 3: Shira 1 – Shira 2 Camp (3,500m – 3,850m)
An easier day crossing the wide, open Shira Plateau, with sweeping views across the alpine landscape and, on clear days, back toward Mount Meru. The gentler gradient (roughly 4-5 hours) helps with acclimatization before the terrain steepens later in the route. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp (3,850m).
Day 4: Shira 2 – Barranco Camp (3,850m – 3,950m)
The trail climbs past the Lava Tower (an optional detour to around 4,600m for extra acclimatization) before descending into the Karanga Valley and on to Barranco Camp (3,950m), set beneath the dramatic Barranco Wall. This up-then-down profile is a deliberate acclimatization strategy — "climb high, sleep low." Duration: roughly 6-7 hours.
Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (3,950m – 4,200m)
A moderate day (roughly 4-5 hours) crossing the Karanga Valley — a steep descent followed by a climb back up the far side. This further aids acclimatization ahead of the push toward Barafu. Overnight at Karanga Camp (4,200m).
Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (4,200m – 4,600m)
A shorter climbing day (roughly 4-5 hours) to Barafu Camp (4,600m), the final staging point before the summit attempt. The landscape here is rocky, exposed alpine desert. Rest and prepare gear in the afternoon before an early dinner and a pre-midnight sleep ahead of summit night.
Day 7: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp (4,600m – 5,895m – 3,100m)
The night hike begins around midnight. You reach Uhuru Peak, enjoy the sunrise, and then descend to Barafu Camp and on to Mweka Camp.
Day 8: Mweka Gate – Arusha – Tarangire National Park
After returning to Mweka Gate, drive to Arusha and on to Tarangire National Park. Here large elephant herds, baobab trees and abundant wildlife await.
Day 9: Tarangire – Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Depart Tarangire and drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, arriving at your lodge on the crater rim in the afternoon. The Ngorongoro Crater's self-contained ecosystem is one of Africa's most reliable wildlife-viewing sites, holding dense populations of lion, black rhino, leopard, elephant and buffalo within its volcanic walls — set up for a full crater game drive the following day.
Day 10: Ngorongoro – Serengeti National Park – Return to Arusha
Short morning safari in the Ngorongoro Crater, then drive through the Serengeti with wildlife viewing on the way back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport for your onward flight.

The clearest, driest climbing conditions fall in two windows: late June through October, and January to mid-March. Kilimanjaro can be climbed year-round, but the short and long rains (November, and April-May) bring wetter trails and lower summit visibility.
Camping (mountain tents, full trekking crew) + safari lodges and tented camps
Full board throughout — mountain meals during the climb, lodge/camp meals on safari
